OUR MISSION

The Jasper Project Mission

The Jasper Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to equine welfare — from crisis to prevention. We provide compassionate hospice care for horses rescued from neglect and suffering, surrounding them with veterinary support, love, and a peaceful, dignified passing we call The Last Gift: the kindness every horse deserves at the end of their journey. Through The Jasper Project: Moony Mission, we work to ensure horses never reach that point — supporting first-time owners with free education and resources from day one. Because every horse deserves dignity, and every owner deserves the tools to provide it.

Jasper's Story

How The Jasper Project Was Born

Jasper was found at an online auction in Texas, advertised as a 'kid-safe' horse and still being ridden despite his condition. When founder Bri Graf placed the winning bid of just $25, no kill buyers were interested — they knew he'd never survive the grueling 22-hour transport to slaughter facilities in Mexico. A veterinary evaluation revealed the heartbreaking truth: Jasper should have been given a peaceful, dignified passing six months earlier. Years of malnutrition, lameness, and severe neglect had taken their toll. In that moment, The Jasper Project was born — dedicated to ensuring no horse endures what Jasper did, and no owner ever faces that moment alone.

The Crisis We Face

Every week across America, horses like Jasper arrive at auctions with no veterinary care, no farrier services, and only the most basic needs met. Many die from prolonged suffering, left on the ground until rendering services collect enough bodies to make a pickup worthwhile.

Our Work

The Jasper Project monitors auctions nationwide to identify horses in the most desperate condition. We provide professional veterinary evaluation, compassionate end-of-life care, and The Last Gift — a peaceful, dignified passing.

Moony Mission

Our preventive program partnering with rescues, sale barns, and the public to support first-time horse owners with free education and resources before a crisis ever begins.

The Jasper Project: Moony Mission

Prevention Starts on Day One

Named after Moony — a horse whose story reminds us that knowledge is the most powerful tool an owner can have — the Moony Mission is The Jasper Project's prevention arm. Because the best way to end equine suffering is to stop it before it starts.

Most horses don't end up at auction because their owners didn't care. They end up there because their owners didn't know. First-time horse owners are often passionate, dedicated people who simply weren't given the tools they needed from the beginning. The Moony Mission exists to change that.

Through free educational resources, hands-on guidance, and direct partnerships with rescues and sale barns, we meet new owners exactly where they are — before a crisis develops. We cover the essentials: nutrition, hoof care, veterinary schedules, behavioral basics, and the financial realities of horse ownership. We connect owners with local resources, answer questions without judgment, and build a community where asking for help is encouraged, not stigmatized.

When owners are equipped and supported, horses thrive. The Moony Mission is how we make sure the next generation of horse owners never has to face the heartbreak that brought The Jasper Project to life.
